Early Arrival

On wobbly legs its first steps
Born beside our log cabin
Early morning – after the rain
Before the sunrise

Spotted white with fur brown
To blend with bark of trees
It took two or three steps
And then laid down to rest

Mom waited – paused patiently
Came back – reflected till
Fawn raised its head
For nurturing and safety

All this observed from
Perhaps twenty feet away
This magical birth

This holy life.
