Voyage to America

On the ship everyone was ill but
I
Alone healthy and walking about
barely seven ~ a baby  ~ really.
Where was I going?
Did I not know that danger lurked
behind each corner
and monsters hid in dark places ~
they waited.
 i clueless
Innocent of tempted minds
Of wicked desires without pause
Without concern
I walked among strangers
My mind filled with tri-color ice cream
chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry blocks
different from  hazelnut gelato
I was the only one who could eat such nonsense
Mother, brother, and sister lay ill
blameless of my journey
into the belly

Of the ship, of my soul, of my mind.
